Treat Yo Self!

A dance class at Dovercourt House

Life in Toronto moves fast. Between work, commuting, social obligations, and trying to keep up with the cost of living, “treating yourself” often slips to the bottom of the list.

It’s easy to say maybe next month, when things slow down, or when I have more money. But the truth is, those moments rarely arrive on their own.

Carving out time for yourself, whether it’s once a week or once a year, isn’t indulgent. It’s necessary. And if you’re going to do it, Toronto’s West End is one of the best places to start.

Wander + Snack Your Way Through Ossington

There’s a reason Ossington Avenue consistently ranks among the coolest streets in the world: it’s packed with some of the city’s most creative, high-quality food and drink spots.

The best way to experience it? Don’t overplan.

Start at one end and wander. Pop into whatever catches your eye. Maybe it’s a cozy wine bar, a buzzing tapas spot, or a late-night dessert counter. The beauty of Ossington is that it’s hard to go wrong. Almost everything is good, and a lot of it is exceptional.

This kind of low-pressure exploring feels indulgent without being overwhelming. No reservations, no rigid schedule, just following your instincts.

With that in mind, I haven’t added any of my favourite restaurants here. But, if you prefer my suggestions over a full go-with-the-flow evening, don’t hesitate to reach out!

R&B Under the Stars: Toronto Island Boat Tours

Few things feel more like a true escape than being on the water. And in Toronto, you don’t even have to leave the city to get that feeling.

Waveland hosts soul and R&B music events on a pirate ship that takes you in and around centre island. These small cruises feature local indie artists and the perfect intimate venue to help you get to know them.

Add in skyline views, sunset light, and a drink in hand, and it becomes one of those experiences that feels far more luxurious than it actually costs.

Move Your Body at Dovercourt House

If your routine has been feeling a little… repetitive, this is your sign to shake things up, literally.

Dovercourt House is known for its affordable and welcoming dance classes. From swing to salsa to contemporary, there’s something for every comfort level.

It’s not about being perfect, it’s about showing up, trying something new, and reconnecting with your body in a way that doesn’t involve a gym or a checklist.

And as a bonus? It’s one of the easiest ways to tap into a genuine sense of community in the city.

Keep It Simple: Ice Cream from Vilda’s

Not every “treat yo-self” moment needs to be elaborate.

Sometimes, it’s just stepping out after dinner and getting something sweet.

Vilda’s has quietly built a reputation as one of the west end’s must-visit dessert spots. Though their sandwiches are still worthy of the hype, it’s their blueberry cheesecake ice cream that steals the show in the summer.

It’s a small thing, but those small moments? They add up.

Summer Nights at Budweiser Stage

There’s something uniquely Toronto about a summer concert on the lake.

Budweiser Stage, now RBC Amphitheatre, remains one of the city’s best warm-weather venues. Whether you’re in a seat up close or stretched out on the lawn, it’s an experience that feels both lively and laid-back.

Lineups change year to year, but the atmosphere is always the same: warm air, good music, and that unmistakable feeling of a Toronto summer night done right.

Dress Up and Go Out: Coffee, Champagne & Oysters

Every once in a while, it’s worth making an occasion out of your evening.

Coffee, Champagne & Oysters is a tucked-away spot that feels like a little secret. It’s the kind of place that encourages you to dress up, slow down, and savour the moment.

Plus, book or ask for the champagne tour for a little extra surprise…

Indulge Properly: Korean BBQ at Takja

If food is your love language, this is your stop.

Takja BBQ House is widely regarded as one of the best upscale Korean BBQ experiences in the city. The quality is exceptional, the space is beautifully designed, and the whole experience feels intentional, from the grill to the plating.

It’s not your everyday dinner spot, and that’s exactly the point.

Make the Time Anyway

Yes, life is expensive.

Yes, schedules are packed.

Yes, energy runs low.

But none of that changes the fact that you need and deserve moments that are just for you.
